Screen Shot 2024-08-05 at 2.14.09 PM-1

Byggmakker and Onninen are part of Kesko Group, which has around 1,800 stores in Europe and is the third-largest retail group in Europe. Byggmakker, with its 59 owned stores, and Onninen, with its two main offices and 26 stores in Norway, play a key role in distributing building materials and technical products in the Norwegian market.

With an increasingly technically advanced industry, Onninen and Byggmakker saw the need to improve their onboarding processes for new employees. The goal was to offer a consistent, simpler, and more engaging onboarding experience that meets the needs of employees and leaders within the company, as well as the requirements of being a large and professional entity that aims to attract top talent.

To effectively address the challenges Onninen and Byggmakker faced with onboarding employees who do not use email as a work tool. After searching the market, they found Preppio, a solution they chose because it an SMS-driven approach that suited their mobile workforce in multiple locations.

“We wanted to improve onboarding because the employee experience directly impacts customer satisfaction and the company's bottom line. Our employees are the customer-facing brand experience, and inconsistency in onboarding leads to an inconsistent brand promise for customers.

Save time for HR, managers, and new employees

By automating the onboarding process, the time spent on manual tasks is significantly reduced. Previously, much of the work was done manually, and important tasks could be forgotten in an otherwise busy day.

Transitioning from pre-boarding managed individually by each manager to a solution that sends out SMS messages with engaging content helps new employees start their learning journey into the company, prepares them for their tasks, and ensures they become part of the company culture early on.

Consistent Employee Experience

This contributes to stronger employer branding and increased engagement by ensuring all employees receive relevant information, regardless of whether their manager remembers to communicate everything.

"We have gone from a onboarding process that was left to chance to a structured onboarding process where we ensure that each employee receives the same information."

The Problem

By automating the onboarding process, the time spent on manual tasks is significantly reduced. Previously, much of the work was done manually, and important tasks could be forgotten in an otherwise busy day.

The Results

6 hours saved per employee: The automation of over 35 different tasks, messages, and forms significantly reduced manual work, saving time for HR, managers, and new employees. If each automated task saved an average of 10 minutes, with over 35 tasks per new employee, the company saved approximately 350 minutes (nearly 6 hours) per new employee.
